Laser Bacterial Reduction
After a routine cleaning, or prior to a treatment termed “scaling & root planing” for periodontal disease, a diode laser can be used to reduce the presence of bacteria between the gum tissue and the tooth. This heat and light based therapy is a very comfortable procedure that does not hurt. You way feel a warm pulse, a tingle, or nothing at all. It takes about 3-5 minutes.
This procedure will reduce the biofilm on the teeth and under the gums, but the bacteria will grow back. This is why home care in between professional dental hygiene visits is so important.
Laser Gum Therapy
Scaling & Root Planing is a gum treatment with the purpose of removing bacteria and hard deposits from the tooth surfaces. This will dramatically reduce the inflammation that leads to soft-tissue attachment loss and bone loss characteristic of periodontal disease.
A diode laser can be used to removed the bacteria infected tissue that lines the inside of the gum “pockets”. This facilitates better healing and regeneration of healthy tissue. This is an excellent adjunctive treatment for mild to moderate cases of periodontitis. Moderate to severe cases are best treated by a gum specialist
