At Oasis Dental Care, in Flagstaff, AZ, our goal is to help you achieve a high level of oral health, and to maintain that health with preventative care. However, sometimes problems come up, especially if you haven’t been in for a check-up and preventative maintenance (cleaning) in a while. If you are suffering from one of the below conditions, then give us a call! We’ll get you in right away for an exam with a General Dentist and we’ll discuss what we can do to help you.
Tooth sensitivity:
Ask us about fluoride options, anti-sensitivity toothpaste, and remineralization techniques to harden enamel.

Tooth Pain:

There are a number of causes of tooth pain. See our Emergency Dentistry section for more information about Cracked Tooth, Root Canal Therapy, and Tooth Extractions.

Dental Abscess:

A dental abscess is caused by a tooth-related infection. They are usually endodontic in origin, from the inside of the tooth, but can be periodontally related, or both! Dental abscesses are often self draining, but can be very dangerous, and even life threatening if they keep traveling through the tissue and cause immense swelling.

Chipped Tooth:
We have many solutions for a chipped or broken tooth. See our Restorative Dentistry and Cosmetic Dentistry sections for many of our restorative options.

Stained Teeth:
Usually teeth can be easily whitened with over the counter, or professional whitening options. However, sometimes teeth cannot be whitened to developmental or genetic conditions. See our Cosmetic Dentistry section for more esthetic options!

Gingivitis and Gum Disease:
The word “Gingivitis” means inflammation of the gums. This inflammation leads to gums that become red, swollen, and prone to bleeding. Gingivitis is caused by inadequate oral hygiene, and it is reversible with good home care and regular visits to the dental hygienist.Gingivitis is primarily caused by insufficient brushing and flossing but there are other factors that may be involved: diabetes mellitus, tobacco use, hereditary causes, certain systemic diseases, stress, inadequate nutrition, puberty, hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy, drug abuse, viral and fungal infections, and the use of certain medications (ex. anti-seizure and high blood pressure meds).Red and bleeding gums are uncomfortable, and what’s worse is that there may be more going on underneath! See our Periodontal Therapy section for more information about periodontal disease and Scaling & Root Planing.

Periodontal Disease (Periodontitis)

Periodontal disease (periodontitis) is a progressive condition which begins with gum inflammation called gingivitis. It progresses to the soft tissue attachment and bone loss. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults living in the developed world and should be taken very seriously.

Periodontal disease (often called gum disease) is typically signified by red, swollen, painful, or bleeding gums, but in some cases, has no noticeable symptoms. Scaling and root planning, also known as a “deep cleaning”, is the recommended treatment for mild to moderate periodontal disease. More advanced cases are best treated with the periodontist and may require surgical options for the best long-term prognosis.
